Gloucester Youth Council asks peers why they choose to stay Above the Influence

Why Gloucester High School stays Above the Influence

As the end of the school year comes to a close, the Gloucester Youth Council reached out to their peers and asked why they choose to stay Above the Influence of alcohol and other drugs.  Students participated during their lunch periods and filled an entire wall with reasons students choose to stay above.

Some reasons that stood out include:

  • “Life is great”
  • “Not everything that is popular is good for you…I know what it does to people…I choose to be a leader not a follower”
  • “I like making good choices”
  • “I want to be a role model for my little siblings”
  • "I care about my future”
  • “I want to have a healthy and successful life”

This event helped raise awareness throughout the high school about the harms of alcohol and drug use and about our youth group.  The campaign was based off the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign conducted by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, Above the Influence.
