This past July youth from Healthy Gloucester Collaborative's Gloucester Youth Council and DanversCARES attended the Youth to Youth Eastern States Conference held at Bryant University in Rhode Island. Over the course of the four day conference youth participated in team building activities, heard from motivational speakers and shared stories about their experiences with peers from across five different states.
Learning about how they could make a positive impact in their communities and help lead their peers to make healthy and safe choices were some of the take aways from this event. One youth mentioned, "I learned that there are many other teens and youth groups that have similar ideas, morals and goals," while others "felt empowered and determined to make more change at home" and to "want to make a difference. As the youth begin to ramp up for the new school year, they are excited to bring what they learned back to their communities and continue to create positive social change.
Funding for this experience was provided through Gloucester's Drug Free Communities grant and the Gloucester, Beverly Danvers, Massachusetts Opioid Abuse Prevention Collaborative (MOAPC).
